How does the Fisher-Price Code-A-Pillar work?

Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-A-PillarToyThe concept behind this toy is fairly simple, because it teaches your kids to problem solve by introducing coding and sequencing into playtime. The idea is to put all of the caterpillar’s segments together in a particular sequence, so that it moves from A to B.

For example, your child might want the caterpillar to start at the door to their bedroom and end up in the kitchen. So your child has to figure out the sequence of segments that will make the caterpillar move along that trajectory.

With the Code-A-Pillar your child will arrange and rearrange the easy to connect segments in endless combinations, encouraging experimentation and pre-planning skills. They have to think ahead about the path they want the caterpillar to take and experiment until they have found the right sequence that achieves this result.

Every time they change the segments, the caterpillar will take a different path, accompanied by sounds and lights wherever it goes.

The Code-A-Pillar comes with 3 straight segments, 2 right turns, 2 left turns, a motorized head and a sound segment (9 segments). You can also by other segments to increase your child’s critical thinking and problem solving skills.

The Code-A-Pillar helps to expand your child’s learning skills:

  • Problem-solving.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Sequencing and coding.
  • Memory skills.
  • Fine motor skills.
  • Dexterity.
  • Experimentation.

What do parents think about the Fisher-Price Code-A-Pillar?

Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-A-Pillar ToyJust about all parents and grandparents who have purchased this toy, love it. Their kids really enjoy playing with it, although some need more help than others to understand its concept and how to make it work.

Two potential annoyances with the Code-A-Pillar are that it needs a lot of room to roam around and that it is pretty loud – and you can’t alter the volume.

If you have a large play area for the kids however, then you should be fine.

Could not say enough about how wonderful this toy is superb.

My grandsons and daughter love it, even the older ones.

Best toy ever. We’re excited to get the expansion packs.

Great idea for learning to think.

This is a great starting to code toy! And my child whose four likes figuring out different ways it can go!

My 2 year old is yet to figure out how to connect the pieces together, but big brother puts them together and then little brother hits the go button!

Is the Fisher-Price  Code-A-Pillar worth the price?

Code-A-Pillar toyCurrently, the Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-A-Pillar Toy is less than $40.00 on Amazon and it is definitely worth paying this price.

This is not simply a toy that kids will play with for a while and then become bored with and ignore for the rest of the day, the Code-A-Pillar is something that will keep them engaged for hours on end.

To make the caterpillar go in a certain direction, making turns and reversing, your child has to use their problem solving skills. They have to experiment, putting the segments together in different sequences to make it go in the direction they want it to go in.

This takes time, critical thinking and patience, helping your child to increase their cognitive thinking and their dexterity. Parents love this toy and you will as well 🙂

The Fisher-Price Code-A-Pillar Toy is a fabulous gift for Christmas or Birthdays.
